Local Preferences and Priorities

Homes for Good establishes Local Preferences (LPs) that give priority to eligible families for placement on our waiting lists.

In order to qualify for a local preference, you must meet the criteria and be referred by the Homes for Good-approved entity listed.

Please contact one of the organizations below if you believe you may qualify for a referral. Referrals can be made at any time by a approved entity.

Participants in Lane County’s Continuum of Care programs, who have completed an assessment for move on readiness with a system screening tool and are referred through Lane County Coordinated Entry based on prioritized readiness.

Displaced Family (Fire or Natural Disaster)
Persons who claim they are being or have been displaced due to fire or Natural Disaster must be a resident of Lane County and have written verification of displacement from a Homes for Good approved entity or a local organization serving displaced families such as the Red Cross, local Fire Department, etc.

Domestic Violence
This preference applies to families who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking (as defined under VAWA) and are referred to Homes for Good approved entity (an entity with an active MOU/MOU with Homes for Good.

This preference applies to persons who are elderly or disabled and who must be referred from an approved entity.

Homeless Veteran Family
This preference applies to homeless veteran families who must be referred from Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF). The definition of ‘homeless’ and ‘veteran’ for this purpose will be included in the MOU/MOA with the qualified entity.

This preference applies to families with an active VASH voucher who are referred to Homes for Good by the local Veteran’s Administration Office.

Transitional Homeless Family
This preference applies to transitional housing persons who are homeless. The definition of ‘homeless’ and ‘transitional’ for this purpose will be included in the MOU/MOA with the qualified entity.

Permanent Housed Family
This preference applies to families that are currently served in other permanent housing assistance programs administered by Homes for Good, when the other program is unable to serve the family and when such assistance is necessary for Homes for Good to appropriately house the family.

Non-Elderly Person with Disabilities
This preference applies to non-elderly persons with disabilities who are transitioning out of institutional and other segregated settings, at serious risk of institutionalization, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.

Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) and the Family Unification Program (FUP)
Under FYI, Homes for Good provides housing assistance on behalf of: Youth at least 18 years and not more than 24 years of age (have not reached their 25th birthday) who left foster care, or will leave foster care within 90 days, and are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless at age 16 or older.

This preference applies to families who are currently on our Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waitlist, self-certified as being homeless at the time of their waitlist application, and are referred from a Homes for Good approved entity for the All In Re-housing Local Preference.
